waves of inspiration

my friend aaren just showed me this wonderful live performance of the song "jacksonville" by sufjan stevens:

the colors, the positive energy, the smiles.
it all hit me with a wave of inspiration; a literal splash of color and whimsy.

this video combined with the fantastic weather on campus (which has lifted my spirits) supplied me with more ideas than i know what to do with!

i feel another line in the works.
my wheels are turning!
and i'm loving it.

fashion show

this past month i showed a collection inspired by the two disney movies "the little mermaid" and "peter pan".

the show was a great success!

the collection featured the following models wearing an outfit i both designed and constructed inspired by characters from the movies:

Ariel- Erika Conaway
Sebastian- Erin Long
Flounder- Catharine Kuntz
Scuttle- Nalani Warling
Triton- Elena Nickle
Prince Eric- Josie McManus
Ursula- Kirsten Salpini
Peter Pan- Aaren Keith
Tinkerbell- Lauren Monteleone
Wendy- Sarah Sesler
John- Angela Winslow
Michael- Mallory Keene
Tigerlily- Vassiliki Ellwood
Mr.Smee- Erika Peckhardt
Cpt. Hook - Alexandria Skaltsounis

here's a group shot of me and my girls before the show:

and here's a shot of eveyrone after the finale:
(with everyone in the outfits they walked the runway in!)
from left to right; sebastian, ariel, wendy, flounder, peter, eric (hiding behind peter), michael, myself & ursula, VASSILIKI as tigerlily, john upfront, scuttle, king triton at the back, tinker bell and hook, and mr.smee on the end!

i love all of my girls so much! they all chipped in and got me a gift card to the fabric store which vassiliki gave to me with a card she hand made and had all of the girls sign:

i'm in the process of making a fashion reel, so stay tuned!
for now i leave you with some backstage shots taken by the lovely LEIGH FOUNTAIN

disposable camera; vassiliki; me.

old town; rayban wayfarers; all else thrifted.

i love the idea of using disposable cameras all summer long.
the pictures are so raw.
one shot; no seeing what it looks like.
everything is more organic that way.

terry richardson.

he has an odd sense of sex appeal.

also, he's amazingly amazing.

the end.

ask alice!

with the premier of Tim Burton's "ALICE IN WONDERLAND [3d]" starring JOHNNY DEPP, HELENA BONHAM CARTER, ANNE HATHAWAY and newcomer MIA WASIKOWSKA happening tonight, i thought a post featuring the December 2003 "Alice in Wonderland" editorial shown in American VOGUE was appropriate.

my favorite ALICE creations are the ones done by Karl Lagerfeld for CHANEL and Marc Jacobs for his self titled line MARC JACOBS.

the VERSACE and VIKTOR & ROLF creations are a close second.
Donatella hit all the right notes; the ruffled layers on her Versace gown are exquisite! and the Viktor & Rolf accordion neckline just seems so right for a Vogue interpretation of everyone's favorite lost girl.
(the way VOGUE included the idea of TWEEDLE DEE & TWEEDLE DUMB through Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren's presence was perfect)

what are your thoughts? favorites? least favorites?

enjoy! :)

vassiliki valentine! [late]

photos taken by LEIGH

model: vassiliki

stylist: myself

rodarte for target lace cardigan, free people dress, sarah jane studded booties
10
days
later.
..
shhhhhh!
whoever said you can only wear red on valentine's day was wrong.
when i think of valentine's day i don't think about the color red! i think about socially acceptable one night stands; candy; day long relationships; candy; doilies; candy; and candy.

and is it just me, or are these [amazing] sarah jane's extremely prada-esque?

i mean.

c'mon.

yeah? yeah.

whether you agree or not; vassiliki and i fell in love with their prada-esque appeal and affordable price tag! a great find at our 'journeys' shoe store!

ultimately, i put together an appropriately flirty [non-red] valentine's day outfit for vassilki which was worn out on a lovely dinner date (with yours truly) at our favorite thai restaurant.
in the wise words of chelley; "we took the night" ;-)

grace is god

VOGUE (U.S.A) January 2010
"already famous" with sasha pivovarova
shot by steven meisel
styled by grace coddington

the kind of styling in this shoot is exactly the kind of fun i want to start having not only with outfits i style for others but with my own personal wardrobe.

its so fun. fearless. colorful!!

grace is a genius. point blank.

the outfits on sasha give me the feeling of a young anna piaggi/catherine baba love child with a dash of taylor momsen's character 'jenny' from gossip girl.

i'm in love.

here's a video of grace at work:
(alongside one of my favorite fashion photographers, annie leibovitz [i sometimes call leigh "my annie"])

ga-ga-garden

photos taken by WILL GOODWIN
(on his blackberry; so excuse the size and quality)

model: myself! (as lady gaga)

stylist: myself again! (maxwell conrad)

thrifted corset, borrowed belt-wig-hat-jewelry-tights, journeys shades, ben-nye green lipstick

this is an outfit i put together and wore to the gaga monster ball this past weekend at my school.
i call it: ga-ga-garden !
this party was all about the music and the costumes; and i had a blast!

best party of the year!
